Mary Jo Capps
Mary Jo Capps has worked in the Australian cultural industry for more than 30 years after graduating with an MA in Musicology from the University of Toronto. Mary Jo started her professional career with symphony orchestras in WA and ABC radio.
In 1987 she established her own consultancy supporting the corporate and strategic development of major art companies including Sydney Symphony Orchestra, NIDA, Bangarra Dance Theatre and the Museum of Contemporary Arts. Since being appointed Chief Executive Officer for Musica Viva in 1999, Mary Jo has worked towards broadening the access to and understanding of fine music through Australia.
She became the first female President of the Sydney Business Chamber in 2010, and advises a number of education and not-for-profit organisations including being the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Music Faculty of the VCA and Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne, and Board Director of the NSW Business Chamber and Pascall Foundation.
She has previously served as a Board Director of the NSW Business Chamber, Deputy Chair of the Australian Music Centre, Board Director of the Pascall Foundation, the Orchestras of Australian Network and the State Chamber of Commerce NSW.
