We are an independent member-based charity peak body dedicated to building flourishing communities by enhancing the extraordinary work of Australia’s not-for-profit sector. We do this by changing the way governments, communities and the not-for-profit sector relate to one another. In particular, this includes establishing a regulatory environment that works for charities and community organisations – not against them.
The nation’s charity sector has delivered an adverse assessment on the Albanese government’s failure to act on its own reform agenda, and to ease the burden on organisations that are delivering urgent cost of living help to those most in need.
Many of the people affected by national policies have no voice. And receive no attention. This is a challenge our sector needs to take up over the coming months – we need more attention on our communities, on us, on the voices of lived experience, on the voices of experts who can offer solutions that strengthen our communities, our economy and our environment. This may mean changing our approach to media, to the stories we tell and how we tell them, writes CCA CEO David Crosbie in the Community Advocate.
This submission outlines nine measures the Community Council for Australia (CCA) believes will significantly strengthen Australia’s not-for-profit (NFP) sector to support our communities and drive real economic savings for government over the coming financial year and beyond.
